… that Boundary Trails Health Centre is a Clinical Teaching Unit?
Established in 2011, the Boundary Trails Family Medicine Enhanced Distributed Education Centre serves the communities of Morden and Winkler.
Residents spend 24 weeks of their first-year Family Medicine Block Time and many of their second-year rotations in either Morden and Winkler, and at the nearby Boundary Trails Health Centre.
For family medicine training, residents are paired with a primary preceptor at their busy fee-for-service clinic at the Agassiz Medical Centre or the C.W. Wiebe Medical Centre.
Physicians at these clinics have specialty training in areas such as chemotherapy, women’s health, obstetrics, hemodialysis, addiction medicine, palliative care, emergency medicine and anesthesia.
During residency in the Boundary Trails CTU, residents work with:
- 1:1 preceptor to resident ratio
- 53 family physicians
- palliative care
- sports medicine
- six surgeons (gen and ortho)
- three radiologists
- allied health staff
- local populations
- other learners, residents, and medical students
